Dr Bejamin Rosman biography:
Dr Benjamin Rosman is a Senior Researcher in the Mobile Intelligent Autonomous Systems group at the CSIR in Pretoria, and is also a lecturer in the School of Computer Science at the University of the Witwatersrand. Previously, he received his PhD in robotics and artificial intelligence in the Institute of Perception, Action and Behaviour within the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh.
His current research interests focus on learning and decision making under uncertainty in autonomous systems, and in particular how learning can be accelerated through abstracting and generalising knowledge gained from previous tasks. These problems are solved using a combination of methods involving hierarchical representations, machine learning with an emphasis on transfer and Bayesian methods, as well as online and reinforcement learning.
He was the recipient of a paper of excellence award at ICDL 2012, and serves in editorial and program committee roles for conferences and journals in the areas of autonomous robotics and AI. He has co-organised international workshops and conferences on intelligent robotics.
