Dear all South African Robotics enthusiasts
The Robotics Association of South Africa (RASA) has decided to launch under it the Robotics Center initiative. This Robotics Center has a similar goal and vision as RASA, to promote multi-disciplinary and robotics education, research, and collaboration within South Africa. (The follow up email below and the attachments that have been sent before are included in the email for those who have not received the information).
IEEE AFRICON 2017 is the premier biennial event of the IEEE in Africa. This flagship conference gives academic and industry attendees the opportunity to share their research. The event will be hosted in the Victoria and Alfred (V&A) Waterfront Cape Town, South Africa, from 18 to 20 September 2017 and is co-sponsored by IEEE Region 8, IEEE South Africa Section, IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, the University of Pretoria and the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers.
Beyond the award: Clementina Saduwa
Clementina Saduwa was a dedicated, tireless student leader and extremely effective volunteer a few years back, when the IEEE Nigeria Section was being revived. She even went on to become the first ever IEEE Region 8 Women in Engineering (WIE) Coordinator. In January 2007, she was killed in a random act of violence at the age of 29, leaving behind her husband and young daughter.

Summary of 2016:
The 1st International Summit of the Triple Helix Association (THA) will be held on 20th – 22nd February, 2017 at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. The theme of this THA international conference is “Accelerating the Attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Through ICT and Data”.

The IEEE South Africa Section held a committee meeting where all chapter chairs and affinity group chairs were invited. Thirteen volunteers attended the meeting. The meeting overviewed the performance and challenges raised by the organisational units. A number of suggestions were made towards improving the processes.
In addition, a presentation was given by Dr Daniel Moeketsi, Senior Research Scientist: Centre for High Performance Computing (CHPC, www.chpc.ac.za/)
